The Tararua Bush is a true wilderness property located on the boundary of the Tararua Forest National Park on the western side of the Tararua Ranges on the North Island of New Zealand.

The Tararua Forest Park is 700,000 hectares (nearly 2 million acres) of mountains and New Zealand native bush.

The Tararua Bush is a 120 hectare (300 acre) property which shares a two kilometre (one and a quarter miles) boundary with the park in the form of the Mangatarere Stream

The above aerial photograph of part of the property shows the main track through the property and the track up to the workshop / garage on the hillside. Click on the picture for a larger image.

Mount Holdsworth is the highest peak in the northwestern view and offers a snow clad vista at times during the winter.

The entrance is through a ford between two giant beech trees. The ford can normally be crossed in a two wheel drive vehicle but after heavy rain a four wheel drive is required.
